During the summer of 2009, I had the opportunity to travel with three professors and a few of my peers to Australia and New Zealand. During our stay, we had the opportunity to teach at Sheldon College, which is a private K-12 school located in Brisbane, Australia.
Through this experience, I had the opportunity to learn and teach in a different cultural setting. I was fortunate enough to teach the students how to play American Football. I also created lessons that incorporated Volleyball, and Softball. During my time at the school, I learned how to play Rugby and Australian Rules football.
Attending Elmhurst College instilled a love for service in my life. Habitat for Humanity was an organization I was involved in for all my four years at Elmhurst College. My junior and senior year I was fortunate enough to be the president of the organization. With Habitat, I had the opportunity to travel to New Orleans and Georgia to build homes during the College’s spring break. My hope is to start a Habitat for Humanity chapter at my future school.
